Nick’s currently a final-year English Literature undergraduate at Royal Holloway, University of London. He wants to be a broadcast journalist/rockstar/actor/multi-millionaire entrepreneur/contestant on Celebrity Big Brother, and if you want to offer him (and pay for) an MSc place here to hone his skills, that’d be lovely.
This website is one of a number of (admittedly rather disjointed) websites he’s created, but this was his first online identity and has been his core internet presence since 2000. This weblog serves no real function other than to give periodically anecdotal updates about what Nick’s been doing with his life. He tries to keep it rather light hearted, but he’s a stickler for detail – hopefully, in years to come, his Twitter feed and this site will be the only autobiographical reminder he needs to compose best-selling memoirs, with a little help from a meticulously-managed iCal. In 2009, he set himself a challenge to take at least a photo every single day, and you can find them all on Flickr. Through his convincing grasp of his digital SLR, he managed to blag two dates taking snaps on tour with Example in 2010.
More notably, he was shortlisted for Multimedia Journalist of the Year & Student Journalist of the Year in the 2010 NUJ Regional Press Awards. This was while he was Editor of The Orbital, the Official Student Publication of RHUL for 2009-2010. Prior to that, he was News Editor for The Founder, the Independent Student Newspaper of RHUL from 2008-2009. He is a student member of the Chartered Institute of Journalists.
What budding broadcaster wouldn’t be complete without some student radio dabbling? He was Head of Training on Insanity Radio for 2009-2010; from 2008, he co-presented the Insanity Radio News Show from 12-1pm on Thursdays, as well as being on the Insanity Music Team and he had his own new music show on Saturday evenings while covering for those naughty presenters who didn’t turn up.
You’re probably getting the picture that Nick likes to have his finger in many media pies. You’d be spot on, because now he’s Media & Communications Officer for SURHUL, the Students’ Union at Royal Holloway. He’s done quite a few other things, but no-one likes a show-off, so it might be worthwhile downloading his CV, or adding him on Skype for a chat.
Nick presumes that his paranoid existential dump on the internet might originate from his frustration about the fact that no-one really knew where Shakespeare was (or what he did, or any of his concrete thoughts) for the vast majority of his life. You can’t really blame anyone for that, though. After all, he didn’t have Facebook. If you’d like to discuss this further, then drop him a line, here – he’s always up for a spot of lunch.
His interests include news; music; film; theatre; literature; language(s); film; photography; travel; technology; sport; you.
